When Ruth Valle first walked through the doors of Pratt & Whitney's East Hartford headquarters in 2003, it felt like stepping foot inside a new city. It wasn't just the sheer size of the campus, but the possibilities it represented: she could work from virtually anywhere around the world and choose from a number of crucial industries, ranging from aviation to climate control. Back then, she had just begun her internship at P&W, fresh out of college with degrees in management information systems and communication.
Ruth never left. This past January, she celebrated her 15-year anniversary with P&W. The lifelong Indiana Jones fan describes her tenure at the company as an “exciting adventure” and says that that sense of limitless possibility she felt in her first week never faded.
Throughout her decade and a half with P&W, Ruth has held a number of roles, beginning with SAP project manager and leading up to her current position as Global Manufacturing Execution System (MES) operations manager. As her work and responsibilities have evolved over the years, Ruth has continued to learn, picking up valuable new skills along the way.
“I think that's one of the best things of working in a company like this, is that every day you're learning, every day there's something new,” she said. “Right now, we're moving towards a more agile culture when it comes to software development, which is pretty exciting and enables us to move faster as we modernize our business and our systems.”
Ruth says she derives a deep sense of satisfaction from her work at P&W because she knows it impacts real people on a regular basis, from the internal team she leads to the customers actually using the products that P&W manufactures.
“My favorite thing about my job is that we are able to be a part of the full value stream across our company from making a part to overhauling an engine, our systems help our businesses deliver on those commitments,” she said. “At the end of the day when I go to sleep, I know that the digital transformation that we are part of is positioning our company for the future.”
